On Sunday we hiked at Wolfe's Neck State Park, probably our favorite local hike. We've hiked there countless times, but that day we decided to start off on a different trail, one we've never been down before. And we are so glad we did! Check out those amazing rocks — perfect for running and climbing and exploring tidepools! And, for clowning around with your sister… Yes, we must choose the path less traveled more often.

On Sunday we took our traditional fall hike up Bradbury Mountain. We missed the peak colors of the changing leaves (such a rainy fall!), but it was gorgeous nonetheless. Of course, having those two vibrant cuties in the foreground makes any backdrop look beautiful!

What do you do at a small-town fair in mid-October? You get your face painted with a ghost — or you get your fingernails painted black. And then you visit the balloon twisters and ask for something Halloween-y, like a skeleton or a black purple cat. Cool.

Tess may be a big kindergartner who goes off to school every day and has her very own adventures, but she still likes to be carried sometimes. And that's just fine with us.

On Sunday we checked out a state park we'd never been to before. There are beautiful trails through the woods and along a lake. And, because this is Maine (and Maine rocks!), there is also an amazing beach. So, we did a little bike riding and leaf peeping, and then we jumped waves and played on the beach. Ah yes, the way life should be, indeed.

Now that it's fall, Tess decided that her Gee-Gee needed a sweater. So she made him one out of pieces of fleece and Scotch tape. This was a bit tricky, since Gee-Gee has no arms, but she made it work. And now they're both very happy.

It was such a perfect day for lounging on the hammock — and watching the sun shine through the changing leaves — that even Penny wanted in on the action. Smart dog.

These photos are from Grace's third-ever trapeze lesson. She had two lessons in the beginner class, then was moved up to the advanced class (say what?!). So it seems she can control a thousand-pound animal AND do graceful acrobatic moves while swinging in the air. Maybe we should just stick with the dance class — I really don't want to lose this kid to the circus.
