It is July, after all! There was much rejoicing today. (And yes, that's an American flag painted on Grace's face — more on that later.) {P.S. My phone seems to have run out of memory, so no more phone photos until I get my technology figured out.}

Today it was finally warm and sunny enough for a trip to Toots. Tomorrow: more rain. Please, Mother Nature, have mercy on our sun-starved souls…

We are saying farewell to Maine (and the fish bubble at LLBean) for a week while we visit Colorado. We are so excited to show Grace her birthplace, visit old friends, and hang out in the mountains. And don't worry — I'll take lots of photos!!

After school today, we stuck around for a very cool "empty vessel ice cream sundae" service learning event. Then we came back a couple of hours later for the last potluck of the year. I'm sad that school is ending just when the island finally seems to be coming alive — and green — again!

We kicked off the long weekend with an ice cream date at Toots with a friend. We even got to meet the newest additions to their farm — five lambs, who were very enthusiastic about mealtime. I didn't let them anywhere near my ice cream cone.

It's only mid-May and the poor dog is already parking herself on the cement floor of the garage to stay cool. Soon she'll begin her daily pilgrimage to the stream behind our house for a refreshing swim. She knows that all she has to do is look at us with those big brown eyes and…
