And while I love that she's into horseback riding, I was thrilled when she finally agreed to give soccer a try.   • Oh— that's just our first-grader, who has suddenly decided that she likes to sit quietly and read. BY HERSELF. I love her more and more each day.

  • Yesterday we went apple picking with friends after school. Pulling the apples off the trees is fun and all, but not nearly as fun as immediately eating the apples (which Grace managed to do despite a major tooth handicap).

  •   After school today… Grace: "I love first grade." Me: "I'm glad. You're really going to learn a lot." Grace: "Yeah, I learned, like, 100 things already."  And all I can think about is, how did my sweet little Gracie grow up so fast? 

  • We started off our week on the creek in Pennsylvania with some serious crawdad catching. Once again, Grace got really into it, and we discovered that we make an excellent critter-catching team. At one point we had fifteen of those critters in her bucket! I was so proud.
