On Monday, Tess wrote her name for the very first time. I wrote an example and explained how to do it, and then she just did it. Like she had been waiting for someone to ask her to do it. And she wrote it right next to a portrait of her gymnastics coach — see the gray hair and the "mixed-up colors" (tie-dyed) shirt? She insisted on giving this very important piece of history to her gymnastics coach, but that's okay.
Later in the day, she wrote her name again — twice — all by herself. In fact, she specifically asked me not to look at her, or even talk to her, while she did it. And now I'm wondering why I never thought to show her how to do this before.
Yesterday she drew a self-portrait, then wrote her name on both sides of the figure. I don't think she has a clue how exciting this is, but I do. And I think it's pretty awesome.
