Navigating the hilly terrain of motherhood

Tesscloseupoutsidesmiling

Tess went to the doctor last week for her 18-month checkup (I realize she’s almost 20-months old, but I’m doing the best I can, people!). I was so proud when the nurse weighed her, and declared her to be a whopping 20 pounds and 12 ounces! Finally, I thought, I have a good eater and an average-sized baby. I just knew that she was fitting into clothes that Gracie didn’t wear until she was two years old. And then the doctor informed me that Tess is in the 5th percentile for weight. Another smaller than average kid. But Tess has consistently been in the 5th percentile, and certainly looks healthy, so there is no need to worry. She is just small, as are most of the women in our family – although we seem to be progressively getting bigger, so there’s hope! Anyway, I certainly can’t say I was shocked to discover that Tess is not really the stocky tot I thought her to be – I guess I was just hoping she’d end up having a physical advantage over Grace. But I’m really not that worried about her – Tess is already starting to show us that she’ll be able to hold her own against her big sister. More on that to come…
